Bike ‘n Sail: a new BISC experience 31st May to 2nd June 2013
Over the last 2013 fresh and windy weekend, i.e. 31 May to 2 June, six courageous BISC members crewed to make a new experience: discover the Veerse Meer from two different perspectives: looking from shore to the water, and from the water to shore. This meant that we made the tour around the Veerse Meer once by bicycle on Saturday, and then again on Sunday by boat.
Although all of us are long standing members; this experience offered us some new perspectives. On top, when stopping in Veere for lunch on Sunday in the middle of the Admiral’s festivities, we learned by way of a presentation, given by Christa and Juergen, why the Veerse Meer became a lake and how it was done.
Although it was felt that the wind was always blowing against us, independently which direction we were cycling, all participants agreed to extend the ride in skipping the ferry and rather take the longer route over the dijk so that we ended up doing 55 km instead of the planned 38. On Sunday then, with wind force 4 and full sunshine, we had a marvelous day of sailing so that finally, everybody was unanimously saying: let’s do it again.
Maybe see you in September cycling around Zierikzee!
