BISC team winning the “24 hours Veerse Meer”!
On 9/10 June we participated with two crews at the “24 hour Veerse Meer”. On “Stormvogel” there were Roel Moens, Ivo Velitchkov and Benjamin O’Reilly and on “Zeewolf” (a rented Spirit 28 from our favourite charter company “De Arne”) with Bo Caperman, Kai-Uwe Sprenger and Peter O’Reilly. 19 boats started (ten for the 12 hours and nine for the 24) under quite harsh wind conditins (6 Bf gusting to 7).
Half of them went back to port already during Saturday afternoon – unfortunately among them “Stormvogel” with a broken spinnaker pole and a slipping winch. During the evening the wind calmed down and thanks to some cans of “Red Bull” our “Zeewolf” crew managed to stay awake. The old arm of a paint roller helped us to keep the genua stable when the wind came from behind on the way to Zandkreek. Finally 5 boats finished the 24 hours on Sunday morning – among them our “Zeewolf”. The GPS showed 81 miles, average speed 3.9 kn and maximal speed 7,5 kn. This alone was already a result to celebrate. We could not believe it when the cup was handed over at the award ceremony! A big thanks the organisers from Oranjeplaat Jachthaven, to “De Arne” for a beautiful boat and – last not least – to Roel!
